Matt Vitart practices in the areas of real property and business transactions. He represents buyers, sellers, borrowers and lenders in both residential and commercial real estate transactions, and represents businesses and owners in a variety of corporate law matters, including mergers and acquisitions, contract negotiation and drafting, business formation and corporate governance. With experience in employment litigation, Matt also advises management teams on employment law compliance.
After working as an assistant to a real estate broker and then as a licensed Realtor, Matt began his legal practice as a commercial litigator at another respected Jackson firm where he represented clients in pursuing and defending claims primarily involving business and contract disputes and labor and employment matters. Prior to joining Randall Segrest, he worked in the Business Opportunities Group at an established business transactions firm in Ridgeland. There, Matt handled a wide range of corporate law matters and business transactions.
In addition to his civilian law practice, Matt serves part-time as a Judge Advocate in the Mississippi Army National Guard. Formerly counsel to the commander of the 112th Military Police Battalion in Canton, he now serves as an appointed Trial Defense Counsel.
Matt is a member of the Mississippi Secretary of State’s Business Law Update Study Group and volunteers from time to time as a business mentor to startup companies through Innovate Mississippi.
Matt holds an economics degree from Mississippi State University and a Juris Doctor from Mississippi College School of Law, both with honors. Matt and his wife, Morgan McPhail Vitart of Meridian, have four children and are active members of Pear Orchard Presbyterian Church.
